The bug was making it impossible to join the session as a host. I’m not sure if anyone from Niantic checks PRs on that repo.

Apologies for the belated reply, there were some things I was looking into regarding this. Emoji Garden is no longer being supported and will be replaced with a newer sample that illustrates the same concepts very soon.
