Is there any chance there will be a lower cost option for students and nonprofit use cases? Also you should add some ways to delete stuff from your website GUI if a project is simply for a quick evaluation test as I can’t find any way to delete scans.
Hi Matthew,
Thanks for reaching out. Out of curiosity since you mentioned both student and non profit use cases may I know what camp you would fall under? Are you an individual university student inquiring about a student/ education license or are you a part of a larger student organization/ lab or non profit or a mix of these?
I’m a college student and currently live in an older rental home that potentially has some historic value. Last time the repair guy came around, he showed me that the house still has aluminum electrical wire and that maybe me and my neighbors should consider getting some kind of historical 3D scan of the 8 or so houses. I think his reasoning was that he overheard the landlord saying they might try to sell the rental properties and while it’s not happening immediately I figured that this would be a good excuse as any to try and learn 3D scanning for larger areas instead of just a smaller single object. I’m also saying nonprofit as well because I don’t have any plans to monetize the resulting 3D scans. (The closest thing to monetizing my work would be that I may hypothetically someday show a potential employer that I have skills in 3D scanning.)
Very much a similar situation for me but non profit historian capturing old buildings and also archiving present day town fixtures. Plan is to make a digital twin of my local township with the town historic society.
would love to make the scans fully public so the world can travel here without the airfare.
Hi Matthew,
So we don’t have any pricing/ plans for individual students at the moment but you do have some options:
Scaniverse Classic:
- This is free and perfect for a use case that does not include commercial use/ financial gain of any kind
- Scans can either be taken as meshes or splats and are only stored on the original device that took the scan.
- Splat scans can be shared (but don’t have to be) with the Scaniverse map for others to see if you wanted to make the scans viewable to others
- Meshes cannot be shared with the Scaniverse map as it’s limited to only Splats but you can export them as other 3D formats such as FBX, PLY, OBJ, etc… if you wanted to share them elsewhere.
Scaniverse New:
- This is a new Scaniverse experience primarily targeted at enterprise use cases/ commercial usage at the Pro and Enterprise subscription tiers but does have a Free tier for those curious about the New experience.
- Scans are kept private to the user and cannot be shared unless exported similar to how meshes are exported in the Classic Scaniverse.
- Since there are monthly rate limits and the Free tier has the lowest it might take some time to be able to get everything scanned with the New experience.
@ANNAS I believe this answer would also apply to you but please do open a new topic if you have any additional questions. This is so we can track user issues and questions better.
Is there at least a way to get a backup copy of my Scaniverse Classic account? Due to limited data and minimal storage availability on my smartphone, I did not initially export or backup my scans after uploading them.
@ANNAS Not to switch topics entirely, but what equipment are you using? I have an Android smartphone and I also got my hands on an older iPhone (without LIDAR) to see how this app and others work between the two operating systems.
