Scaniverse on androi transfer scans to new phone

Hi there,

I’ve acquired several 3DGS scans of my newborn over the last year through Scaniverse on Android, and changed phone last week (broken screen, hopefully still slightly working). Niantic Scaniverse was the only app not transferring app data, hence my scans live only on the older phone (old: Pixel 7 Pro, Android 16, scaniverse v. 5.1.1, to a new: pixel 10 pro, android 16, scaniverse 5.1.1).

There is an “Transfer Scans” feature that does nothing and fails - multiple mentions on the forum.

I’ve exported all splats as ply via bluetooth (no way to do it in one go, pretty boresome), but would love to get the raw-data as well, and have these scans available through the scaniverse app on the new phone. Obviously, I’ll not post publicly to map.

Is there any way to export raw app data and recover on the new phone? I can do adb if that’s required to get all these precious memories back on the app rather than only the raw 3dgs files. The export raw data was always checked. Also, is the web portal of scaniverse classic retired?

Thanks a lot for getting back!

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for reaching out—and I’m really sorry to hear about the trouble transferring your scans, especially given how meaningful they are.

At the moment, Scaniverse does not support exporting or transferring the raw capture data from the app. That data is stored locally on the device and isn’t included in any transfer or sharing workflows.

If your goal is to access your scans across devices within the app, the best option today is to use the Share Link feature (Share → Share Link). This uploads the scan to the cloud and allows it to be accessed on any device signed in to the same account. Please note that this process shares the processed scan only—raw data remains on the original device.

It’s great that you were able to export your splats as .ply files as a backup. For now, that’s the most complete way to retain your data outside the app.

Regarding Scaniverse Classic, the Lightship web portal has been decommissioned. You should have received an email detailing how to migrate from it, or, you can initiate the process yourself now at https://scaniverse.nianticspatial.com.

Let me know if you have additional questions or need clarification.

Kind regards,
Maverick L.
