Viewing "Device Map" scans in the Unity editor?

Include the following details (edit as applicable):

  • Issue category: Scanning Framework
  • Issue Environment : Unity Editor

Description of the issue:

I’ve been testing out the experimental new feature “Device Maps” to be able to create localizable and reusable shared environments between devices and the quality so far has been excellent.

However, it would be nice to also be able to view / use the maps within the Unity editor.

Is it, or will it be possible to load a previously scanned map into Unity (provided it has been downloaded from the device) to view it and then create visible ways to construct anchor placement / content for viewing when the map is recognised by the device.

Immersal and others, as well as 8th Wall’s scanning feature already have a similar capabilities, so wanted to ask if this is possible?

Hi Simon,

Thank you for your questions! Device Maps don’t support anchor placement as we have something we call “content authoring” for that kind of functionality you’re looking for. For more information, please visit How to Place Content in Real World Locations Using Location AR in our documentation. What’s more, we currently don’t have a way to visualize device maps in the editor.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Kind regards,
Maverick L.
