Question about MP4 vs INSV processing time

Hi Scaniverse Team,

We have a question regarding processing times for 360 video uploads.

So far, we have uploaded several native INSV files from a 360 camera. These files were relatively large and typically took between 4 and 9 hours to process, but the resulting Gaussian Splats were generally successful and of good quality.

We are now running a small test using a much shorter clip: a 15-second MP4 file exported from the original 360 footage. The file size is approximately 312 MB.

What surprises us is that this MP4 test has already been processing for more than 5 hours and still has not completed.

Could you help us understand the technical differences between processing a native INSV file and a converted MP4 file?

Specifically:

  • Does Scaniverse treat MP4 files differently from native INSV files during reconstruction?

  • Are there metadata, camera calibration, gyro, or stitching-related differences that affect processing time?

  • Could exporting to MP4 remove information that makes reconstruction more difficult?

  • Is it normal for a short 15-second MP4 clip to take as long or longer than a much larger native INSV recording?

We are trying to determine whether this behavior is expected or whether there may be an issue with the uploaded file.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,
