Generated assets from 13 scans but only 3 scans appear in the final asset

Include the following details while filing a bug report (edit as applicable):

  • Platform category: Scaniverse Web
  • Device Model & OS version: iPad Pro 12.9-inch (M2)
  • NSDK or Scaniverse version:

Bug reproduction steps:

I went to the site that had the scans I created, I clicked on Generate Assets, I selected the 13 scans and when I viewed the final output it was only made up of 3 of the scans to make the model, splat and vps map. It used 30,210 credits for the generation and says it incorporates 13 scans. How can I get the generated asset to use all 13 scanned locations and if it is unable how would I go about getting the credits back?

Thanks.

Hi Aydaen,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Would you be able to share screenshots of what you’re seeing on your end regarding the generated asset only being made up of 3 scans?

Sure. I threw all the screenshots into a Google Drive folder since I am unable to attach screenshots here being a new user.

The screenshots show the mesh output from the asset generation with just 3 scanned trees, the 13 scans contributing to the asset generation, and samples some items that did not make it into the asset generation that be seen in the still of the video of the scan.

Thanks,

Aydaen

Thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity, if you export the Asset and open it in 3D modeling software like Blender, is it still only showing that it’s comprised of the three scans?

Unfortunately, yes. It’s just the 3 scans in the glb export and the uncompressed splat ply. I threw 2 screenshots of the glb in Blender in the same Google Drive folder.

Does the distance between scanned points affect which ones can be grouped together? The scans I have are within 100 yards of each other.

Thanks,

Aydaen

Any additional advice?

Thanks!

Hey Aydaen,

Apologies for the delay on my end. I sent all this to our Scaniverse team to have a deeper look into the scan and asset data. I’ll keep you posted on findings or if they have any more questions

Thanks! I appreciate you looking into it! Let me know what you find.

Hi Aydaen,

Is the goal of this Asset to create one large Asset of the entire area that these 13 scans encompass? That’s the idea I got when looking over the information you provided and it’s also the idea our Scaniverse team is getting.

If that is the case, they noted that the objects being scanned appear to be scanned one object per scan with only a little bit of the surrounding area. The scans need to be overlapping so that when the large asset is generated, the generation pipeline is able to use that overlapping scan data to join everything together. Otherwise, you get results similar to what you’re seeing where only a few of the scans are present in the final Asset.
